Avis hotel kuredu beach bungalow Male : We stayed in Kuredu this June 08. We stayed in a Beach Bungalow, which was excellent, I doubt that I would have paid anymore to stay in the other accommodation. The beach bungalows look crap from the outside because they are made of concrete rather than wood like all of the newer buildings. But we saw inside the water bungalows and despite ... having a 4 poster bed were very similar. Also the location of the bungalows was excellent and a really quiet side of the beach which I thought was great! The jacuzzi beach villas were nice and on a nice stretch of beach also (directly opposite the BBs) and these looked to me to be the best location if I was to pay any extra! Don t stress over what number bungalow to get...they are all in the same area, ours was 450 and was perfect! but so were many of the others - they are all directly on the beach so what else do you want??
Be prepared to get bitten to hell! We took vitamin B1 (as suggested) and jungle formula, but they took no notice and for some reason there are no mosquito nets on beds/ windows?? So take your own bed net (there are already hooks in the ceiling to hang them and you ll get a great night sleep!
Reading some of the negative reviews here I fully understand why they are there. The all inclusive is bad...they treat everyone differently. You are allocated a food outlet based on what room you are staying and if you venture to another bar or eatery then everything is charged to your room even though its the same products on sale. This is obviously to keep the commoners out of the posher places though as the pool bars where full of the proper english lot which wasn t a problem but they are a tiny bit more rowdy than the acoustic music and couples kisssing bars around the island.
The trips that we went on were awful and a great waste of money...ask other customers for advice before you put your name down. Dolphin safaris and sunset cruses were awful and overpriced and the staff at the watersports place were a bunch of [--], I m sure you ll notice if you are female or if you paid them any money for anything!!
Also beware of the dolphin safari board which states that the boatride is $39 pp when you sign the bill you ll find that it comes to $132 for 2 people. I questioned this (whilst the man was literally holding the boat waist deep in water for us) and the girl said "oh that was an offer, but it s not today" even though the board was up literally around the corner as you walk to the watersports centre!! We panicked because there are cancellation charges and the bloke was waiting so we got on, thinking that we d sort it out later...yeah right! No-one gave a crap, and because we didn t see any dolphins (for a second time) we thought that they would think that we were just angry that we didn t get to see any dolphins.
The snorkeling is fantastic, we swam with sharks, turtles, moray eels and got attacked by the red tooth trigger fish (you are told when you arrive that there is nothing dangerous in/ around the island so don t worry) but get attacked by one of those and see what you think of that comment, have a look on you tube (trigger fish attack) so you know what the bugger looks like!!!
Despite being off season the weather wasn t too bad, yes it rained 2 out of seven but you can still snorkel, use the pool, bars etc, so I wouldn t worry about the weather too much. We were also told that the island was less than 1/2 full at this time of year which would outweigh the weather for me, I would have hated it to be any busier than it was!
On leaving we had to wake up 2 hours earlier than some of the other guests to catch the seaplane (which was a boatride to another resort island to catch a plane there) even though we were on the same plane from the maldives to dubai as some of the other guests who caught a plane direct from Kuredu 2 hours after us!!! We did question it but they told us that we had to catch this plane as we needed to check in at male 3 hours before and couldn t leave any later...[--]! The check-in wasn t open and the other guests came later on - the customer service in Kuredu is absolute crap. My advice would be to stay clear of the staff and do your own thing because the place itself is lovely!
Despite the bar staff mimicking cockney accents (which is the last thing anyone would want in the maldives) and the poor customer service, it would not put me off going again - I probabally would not go back to this island, but if you have booked, just take the bits of advice that people have left and avoid the negatives (BECAUSE THEY CAN BE AVOIDED IF YOU ARE PREPARED) and you will have a really nice time there.\
ps - the staff in the Bonthi and the cleaning staff are really lovely, they don t get paid very much and work away from home for months at a time. I heard that its mainly the English customers that leave tips and the staff depend on it so if you do get good service don t forget them - our room boy seemed surprised and very grreatful for his tip at the end of the holiday (and we didn t give him that much) but I think that its the cocky lot at the bars that seem to get the tips and no-one else!

Avis hotel kuredu beach bungalow Male : You best get some fanta
Flew out on the 11th with first choice, 40 minute delay due to air conditioning on the airplane, sat in the posh bit even though im not posh food was ok on the way out but a bit naff on return flight, sat on plane at Male for an hour on return leg even after they hurried us up to board.
Anyway I would just ... like to thank the bloke that jabbed me in the arm as I watching a film and instead of politely asking me to close the window blind as we neared Male decided to just shout at me to close my blind, I informed ( shouted back ) him that because it was the window between our aisle and the isle in front that it wasn?t my blind to close so I half closed it so he was still smothered in sunlight.
BAINSYS TIP either move your head if the sun is shining through someone?s window seat or put some shades on or politely ask somebody to close there blind because next time you may find that you will not be able to pick your nose for a month with the finger that you have just used to jab me
The next problem on the plane was getting off, got the bags out of the hold ll doors had opened and people were queuing up behind us, so off I start only for a gentleman in front to get a bit funny, after you I politely say, anyway he still wasn?t ready so off we go only for the woman in the next aisle up to give me a dirty look, im in no rush love so after you I say anyway she wasn?t ready either ( don?t forget the doors were wide open and most passengers were disembarking ) so eventually we all get past and go through the usual procedure of cases, seaplane etc.
The new Kuredu, Komandoo lounge is very nice and a good touch, the man and the lady that wanted to stay on the plane for as long as possible eventually made it to the kurdu lounge but had to wait an hour and a half for the next sea plane.
BAINSYS QUICK TIP next time try getting off the plane quicker rather than holding everybody else up and then you may get a quicker sea plane transfer
Arrived at Kuredu, The drummer boys were playing there rendition of the Rolling Stones jumping jack flash it was note perfect apart from the fact that they were
Playing it backwards, 9.5 for effort.
Signed in and made our way to BV 203 good location BUT the sea planes go to bed every night and then get up far too early ( im sure this was Stefan?s idea )
FOOD
Im into my curries and the hotter the better so I personally have to disagree with some reviews that mention the fact they thought the food was bland, I did however get a bit bored with seeing roast lamb with mint jelly on the board about 4 or 5 times.
Food was on par if not slightly better than last year, the chinese one night was outsatnding.
We eate out once which was at francos and this was far better than last year, although I did have to take a tablet the next morning for fear of not getting to a toliet in time.
O RESORT
Very nice in my eyes and very plush its just there?s no one there during the day and the evenings are very quiet as well, there is in my view a bit of an atmosphere when you walk in the evening as its like walking into a new pub for the first time everybody watches you.
Also noticed that there was no shade around the swimming pool during the daytime and although I like the O Villas im not sure I would book one due to there location, in my eyes you could get and pay for a BB in a better location. Obviously a BB would not be on par with the interior of an O villa but the beach from about 400 upwards is far better.
STAFF
As norm very good, always smiling and always there, I have filled out the questionnaire that the resort give you and could have done with some more space for the best member of staff section.
I would say that Marsh at the O resort is doing a very good job and for all the help that you gave us and others a big thank you all the best for the future.
HOLIDAY OVERALL
We have booked up already for next so the changes that have been made to certain parts of teh island did not affect our holiday at all, I would say that they actually enhanced them as due to there being three different resorts the resort seems less crowded, please note though that May is not the height of the season and I believe there were only about 600 to 700 guests on the Island during our stay but overall Im more than happy to revisit, Stefan has gone up in my estimation BUT stop wearing those white suits you poser
Overall go with an open mind and if you do run into problems then speak to someone out there rather than build it all up and spoil your holiday only to complain when you get back to whatever country your from.
Some people will not be happy wherever they go and will expect five star treatment for three star money but for me personally Kuredu ticks most of the boxes.
Regarding the beach bungalows we have been to kuredu three times to date and on two occassions stayed in the same Beach Bungalow and i would not have any hesitation in booking a beach bungalow again in the future, yes they are basic but how long do you plan in spending in the room when you have a tropical island and sea to explore.
Overall 9 out 10

Avis hotel kuredu beach bungalow Male : We travelled to Kuredu for 6 nights after 8 nights touring in Sri Lanka, the trip to the Island and the sea plane journey was fantastic and such an experience, my husband is desperate to become a seaplane pilot!
From getting off the sea plane and walking down the pier to the sound of the welcoming drums, beautiful sunshine, straight into ... the bar and no worrying about carrying luggage, what more can you ask for. BIG downside to come, we were booked into a garden bungalow, and told not to worry as we could upgrade on arrival, possibly could of if the island hadn t been full, i would not recommend the garden bungalow, thankfully all it was needed for was sleeping, which would also be fine if we d had a double bed! it took 2 nights and a couple of firm words, then my husband standing jn reception and refusing to mvoe until they guarenteed us that the bed was done (you are probably yhinking whats the problem with 2 singles, this is the only 2 weeks of the year with no kids, and a few thousand pounds saved for the holiday of a lifetime, the least you d expect is to sleep with each other) Finally they put a matress over the 2 beds which they had pushed together, which again would of been fine but for the fact one bed was 2 inches higher than the other! What do you do with that? Laugh, that s all we could do.
Fortunately the Island and surrounding sea, the snorkling, the dolphins, the turtles, the trip out in the hunis, absolutely paradise, every day i smiled with the beauty of it all, we walked around the Island more than once, and being able to just walk into the beautiful sea and swim, heaven on earth. i would recommend any day.
just to air on the side of caution, we went all inclusive, but there was alot you couldn t have on the all inclusive, certain bars you couldn t use unless you were at that particular part of the island, sometimes we felt like the paupers!
i would go back definately but i would definately make sure we were in beach or jacuzzi villa.
I would recommend anyone to this Island
